Learning Together, Inspired Forever

Year 5/6 Saturn

Croeso i Ddosbarth Saturn

Welcome to Saturn.

Year 5/6

Meet The Team

Mrs Edwards Class teacher/Deputy Headteacher

Dosbarth Saturn is a Year 5/6 class taught by Mrs Edwards (Deputy Headteacher) and is supported by Mrs Jones (PPA) and Mrs Williams (TA)

Communication:

Class Dojo is a brilliant communication tool and used on a regular basis to keep parents/carers up to date with announcements and messages, as well as posting pictures of classroom activities. It is beneficial that all parents/carers are set up on Class Dojo. If you require any support with this, then please speak with Mrs Edwards.

Daily routines:

Dosbarth Saturn will enter and exit the school via the Soar Terrace entrance.

Our school gates open at 8:40am and the pupils will be in class at 8:50am. The school day finishes at 3:10pm and the children will be supervised and dismissed by the class teacher.

If you wish for your child to walk home or to a meeting point, a consent form will need to be completed beforehand. Please contact the school office for the form.

We advise that children are provided with a water bottle to bring to school daily and a healthy snack to eat during their morning playtime. Alternatively, fruit can be purchased in school at 25p per piece of fruit.

In Year 5/6 we encourage the pupils to be resourceful and effective learners who are organised and ready to learn. Pupils may bring in a small pencil case containing a black ink pen, pencils, a ruler and coloured pencils.

HOMEWORK MENU:

A homework menu will be created following the class EPIC (Everybody Planning in Class) process. Pupils can choose 1 or 2 tasks from the menu based on the class topic.

READING:

It is paramount that your child reads every day at home in order to develop fluency and understanding of a variety of text types (a least 10-15 minutes daily reading is recommended). We encourage pupils to read a range of literature that are challenging, including texts linked to real life. Please listen to your child read every week, even if you deem them to be ‘fluent,’ as discussion about the text will help your child’s vocabulary to expand, and aid with developing their writing. Pupils will read in a focus group at least once a week. As part of their daily menu pupils will complete a range of tasks to improve reading skills.

It is important that all children read regularly to ignite a love for reading and to fire their imagination. All pupils have access to our online reading scheme BUG CLUB. Please encourage your child to read the Bug Club books and to click on the bug tasks throughout the week.

SPELLINGS: All pupils are given a spelling booklet at the start of each term. They will be tested on these spellings every Friday.

MATHEMATICS and NUMERACY

We use White Rose maths as a guide to support our teaching of mathematics in the classroom.  Children are encouraged to  refer to the White Rose 'Learning videos' and 'Free download workbooks' as an extra tool to support home school learning and to reinforce key concepts taught in the classroom.

Help encourage your child to rapidly recall number bonds to multiples of 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s, doubling and halving of numbers as well as multiplication facts to 12 x 12 at random.

Thank you for your continued support. If there is anything else you would like to see or access via our class page that would help you or your child at home, then please let us know.

Diolch yn fawr,

Mrs Edwards & Team
